Cross Over Program

Source: AFA

Date: Feb 29, 2012 at 12:00 AM Pacific Time

From: www.unitedafa.org

A voluntary Cross Over Program has been negotiated and agreed upon for Flight Attendants who wish to work as an employee of s-CO. This decision, once made, is irrevocable outside of the 10-day period immediately following the award. Flight Attendants at s-UA may elect on a one-time basis, to cross over to s-CO as provided by the Letter of Agreement in our 2012-2016 Contract. It is important to recognize that once you have crossed over, in all respects, the provisions of the s-CO Contract and s-CO policies will govern your employment.

Bidding for cross over opened today following the ratification of our new Agreement and will close in 30 days, on March 30th at 0800 Central Time.

Critical Considerations

Should you choose to bid for this Cross Over Program it is important to carefully review the company's cross over packet and our joint Q&A. The decision to transition through this Cross Over Program is permanent if revocation is not exercised within 10 days of the cross over award (See Letter of Agreement  for additional stipulations.)

Eligibility

Participation in the Cross Over Program is voluntary and open to all s-UA Flight Attendants, with the legal right to work from a U.S. ‘base’. Both active and inactive s-UA Flight Attendants may opt to cross over however, inactive Flight Attendants must be ready to return to work on assignment to s-CO. Flight Attendants who cross over will remain on the seniority list at s-UA and will retain and accrue seniority while employed at s-CO.

Program Components

There will be no probationary period and Flight Attendants who cross over shall use their retained s-UA service credit for purposes of pay and benefit accrual rates. Additional details regarding sick leave and vacation should be referenced in the full Letter of Agreement. Flight Attendants who cross over will receive a lump sum cash payment of $2,500 to defray costs associated with relocation. No other moving expenses are authorized nor will they be reimbursed. Flight Attendants will also receive a s-CO uniform at no cost; and during training will be paid 83 hours per month, prorated for days of training. Additionally Flight Attendants who cross over will continue current health and welfare elections from s-UA through the end of 2012 at the subsidized benefit payment rate currently applicable at s-UA, and then participate in s-CO health and welfare plans for 2013.

Duration

The Cross Over Program will remain in effect until the operational merger has been completed and the following events have occurred:

  • A joint Contract has been successfully negotiated
  • A merged Flight Attendant seniority list has been determined and implemented

Consider Carefully

The Cross Over Program may provide a beneficial option for some United Flight Attendants who wish to participate. While the program does contain an AFA-negotiated provision of a one-time right to revoke, within 10 days following the award, it is otherwise permanent. We strongly recommend you carefully read the entire text of the Letter of Agreement, the upcoming Q&A on our website, and direct any questions you may have to your Local Council. This is a big decision, and one you should feel secure in making.

Bidding for the Cross Over Program

After carefully reviewing all of the information about a Cross Over Program, bidding may be accomplished through your VOLUN screen starting today, February 29th through March 30th 2012 at 0800 Central Time.
