United Continental Holdings, following a review of technology used by United Airlines and Continental Airlines as well as solutions used by neither currently, this week informed employees which systems will be used by the merged airline in the future. "After a thorough study, we have made the technology systems decisions that will create the best technology platform for the new United," EVP Technology Keith Halbert said in a communication with workers.

United decided that its reservation, check-in, e-commerce and inventory operations will deploy the Shares system used by UA. The revenue management and network departments will use Orion, ARORA and SDO from UA. Human resources and payroll will use UA systems while contact centers will use voice technology from CO. Finance will use a hybrid solution from UA. Sales will use Sales Insight from CO. Flight profitability will use FPS from CO.

Airport resource management and mail scanning will use UA tools, while gate management and baggage scanning will use CO tools. Flight operations will use UA systems, while crew management will use CO systems and maintenance will use CO systems. Which system will be used by the cargo operation is still under review.

"Testing and implementation of technology systems will occur on varying timelines depending on the complexity of the project, resource availability and system interdependencies," United stated. "Migration to the selected systems will occur throughout 2011 and into 2012."
