Section 9.G. Automation

The issue of how to maintain the Contractual flexibility of unlimited trades between Flight Attendants while protecting the integrity of the process has long been a discussion for your Local Presidents who make up the United Master Executive Council (MEC).  In May AFA conducted a system-wide vote to determine whether to pursue a change to our trading process.  At the conclusion of the vote, the result was a modification to our trading process.

Effective Monday, October 26, at approximately 0500 Central Time, automation will be implemented to support a change to the processing of trip trades.  All trip trades processed from this point on will be awarded consistent with the Letter of Agreement between the company and AFA that was the result of the system wide vote to change the trade process, thus modifying the provisions of Section 9.G.

As of the effective date, a Flight Attendant attempting to trade into an ID/position they have previously traded away will receive an error message "RJ55-ID POS PREVIOUSLY TRADED AWAY" and the trade will be rejected.  This will apply to all trip trades involving the ID/position and includes trades between Flight Attendants, RDO trades, trades with open flying and charter trades.

In the past, Flight Attendants have been able to "undo" completed trades due to a change in personal circumstances simply by "trading trips back".  Effective with the implementation of this new automation, "trading back" will no longer be an option.  You are strongly encouraged to exercise caution when entering into trades once this automation is in place.
