Knee Defender Idiots

Apparently, United is concerned enough about a stupid device called the 'Knee Defender' to publish a piece in the latest F/A communication, Onboard Updates.  Check this out:

A new product is being marketed via the Internet called the “Knee Defender.” The plastic device is smaller than a cigarette package. When placed on the arm of a lowered tray table, the device slides down until it is snug against the seatback. It prevents the seat in front from reclining, thus allowing more knee room for the customer sitting behind the seat. United Engineering and Maintenance is evaluating the device to determine if it can potentially damage a seat or tray table or violates any FARs. There have been no reports of any customer using this product on any United flight, however, should you encounter a customer using this product on one of your flights, please document the details in a flight attendant report or use DIS*39003 to notify management. More information relative to the company's position on this product will be communicated as it becomes available.

Oh man oh man oh man...  Can you imaging trying to travel to SYD or AKL all-nighter in coach, all quiet after a nice dinner service and a glass(s) of wine?  You gently try and get some sleep during the next 10 hours by reclining the seat back a few millimeters to...

stop

What selfish a--hole would use a device like that?  And what company would sell such a product?  Here's their Web site.  Check it out for yourself.

United needs to make it EXTREMELY EASY for flight attendants to write up any incident they notice of use of this 'product'.  F/A report forms and DIS*39003 are not easy enough.  They should allow a form straight from Jumpseatnews and any other F/A internet website that can transmit a report directly to WHQ for review.  Something like this:

   Knee Defender User Reporting Form

Name of A-Hole:
Seat Number:
Flight Number:
Date:
Other Comments:

Don't I Wish!!  Don't bother filling out the form above.  I doubt that WHQ would want e-mail from us. But it was an interesting idea anyway!

Unbelievable...
