Passports
U.S. passport holders can obtain a three-year permit to live and work in the UK. This is called an A L E (Airline Employee). The visa is issued on a yearly basis. The first stamp is provided when a transferring flight attendant first arrives in London and presents a letter of transfer confirmation to UK Immigration.
Information on the transfer process and a copy of the letter will be included in your transfer package. This permit is renewable on a yearly basis for two more years.
It is the responsibility of flight attendants to ensure that ALE stamps are valid at all times. Three or four weeks prior to the end of the year, flight attendants should obtain a letter from London Onboard Service and ensure the stamp is renewed with the Immigration office.
The ALE stamp entitles flight attendants to bring a spouse into the UK. The flight attendant is restricted to work for United Airlines only; however, the spouse is not restricted. Dependents are also entitled to have an ALE stamp
A physician provides services to UA employees by contractual arrangement.
