Since Jumpseatnews was launched in July of 2000, I've never make available the visitor statistic information.
Not because I have anything to hide, but simply because compiling visitor statistic reports is tiring and I'd rather be doing just about anything else than having to decipher charts, graphs, and statistical information. It makes me sleepy even to think about and write this now.
And so, for years, I kinda ignored them and simply archived these large weekly log files that track web site activity. Out of sight, out of mind.
For kicks and giggles, I decided to get off my lazy behind and actually READ and STUDY and MAKE SOME KIND OF SENSE OUT OF THEM. I've complied all of this information into a 52-page report
(52 pages - 631 KB).
The results shocked me.
They cover the period from Jan 1, 2006 - Oct 1, 2006.
Up until now, I had assumed Jumpseatnews received around 300-400 visitors per day. I guess I was wrong.
This year, there have been thus far 123,199 visitors to the Crew Lounge home page. Since that is a non-public page, this amount would solely be comprised of United Airlines employees who have already logged in to the site. Obviously, we get a lot of repeat visitors!
In fact, most of my statistical information regarding browsers, computer operating systems, and general interest level and paths taken through Jumpseatnews would be very accurate information targeted specifically at United Airlines flight attendants and pilots.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Certainly, I'm looking at JSN somewhat differently today than I did yesterday. It's much more popular than I thought and I'm very happy about that.
I just don't have the time, staff, and budget to even kinda-almost-maybe come even close to providing what I envision flight attendants need and deserve.
But JSN is still just an amateur site run by one human and one dog. I just don't have the time, staff, and budget to even kinda-almost-maybe come even close to providing what I envision flight attendants need and deserve. This is so frustrating for me because I've got hundreds of ideas that I just can't get realized.
Back in 2000, it was a lot easier. Today, there are a gazillion things to keep on top of---and F/A computer users are expecting better and better pages and web sites. And they deserve them. What continues to frustrate me so much is that flight attendant resources are so difficult to find and/or use.
And so, what to do?
I'm not sure. I will continue to work on this site in my spare time as much as I can. It's not perfect, but it's the best I can do.
I'm just going to have to declare e-mail bankruptcy from time to time.
But I just wouldn't have it any other way. Flight attendants deserve the best, and thanks to all of you who keep this electronic campfire warm.
Fly safe out there...
Sincerely,
Christopher Lee

One interesting item to note is that there is a large drop in the graphic during March 2006. That was a few days when the web server went down.
