Hello, this is Jane Allen with a special Update for Tuesday, May 23, 2006.

As we've discussed several times, change is one of the constants in our company. Having emerged from our restructuring, we are building a sustainable business that can successfully compete in the open market. Doing so requires us to be open to change, including how and where each of us contributes to the success of the company.

As you may have seen from the announcement earlier today, I have accepted the position of senior vice president, human resources. Sean Donohue will succeed me as senior vice president, Onboard Service. Most recently, Sean has held the position of vice president, customer experience, and has been instrumental in development of our customer strategy. Sean also led the launch of Ted and has 22 years of experience with the company in sales and operations positions.

It is with mixed emotions that I am taking on this new role at United. While the last several years have been challenging, they have been particularly gratifying in terms of the great work that has taken place within Onboard Service. Through everyone's efforts, we have maintained the loyalty of a vast number of customers, while adapting to the changes that were necessary to keep the company in business.

I can only say that it has been my privilege over the past three years to have worked with the talented, energetic and dedicated men and women of this division. Through my travels, I have spoken with and visited with many of you, and I am continually impressed with your enthusiasm and passion for this airline and our customers.

I am confident that each of you, and the division overall, will continue the positive momentum of the work we have underway. Sean is an outstanding leader who shares your passion for our customers. As a result, he recognizes and understands the role you play in the delivery of our customer experience, and you can expect him to lead the division to new levels of success.

In my new role, I look forward to continuing to work with the Onboard division, as well as every other division and group within the company. We will be building on the work that has begun to transform our human resources organization into one that will support United's growth and continued success. Coming from an operating group, I have a first-hand perspective of what is needed to provide our people with what they need to be successful.

I assure you that I will continue the work that is being done to shape a people strategy that will help drive delivery of our desired customer experience and attainment of our financial goals. We have earned the right to compete and, as challenging as this industry is, I believe that we are well positioned to succeed. More than ever before, our people will be the difference between us and our competitors.

I know that each of you will continue to do the good work that you do – providing warm, attentive and courteous service to our customers. As always, thank you for creating memorable travel experiences for our customers. As I've said before, this is a good time to be at United!

Fly safely.
