Hi it's Glenn, and I am calling today from Chicago.
As we begin some of the busiest travel days of the year in many of our locations around the world with the commencement of the holiday season, I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your hard work and your many personal contributions throughout the year.
I suggest that we all take a few moments to reflect on all that we have accomplished at United over the last year.
By any person's measure, it has been an extraordinary 12 months.
Sometimes I think we lose sight of the significant work that has been accomplished in both the restructuring and in our efforts to improve the product and the service that we offer our customers -- as we focus on every point of contact that our customers have with all of us at United.
Certainly we all know that we have much more to do, particularly in delivering the consistently positive experience our customers want, and they deserve, every time they choose to fly United.
For example, last Saturday at O'Hare we disappointed our customers, by not being prepared, as we should have been, for the extraordinary volume of passengers. We will identify and we will resolve the cause of that problem as we will with all other issues that impact our performance and our consistency in execution.
That having been said and acknowledged, the progress that we have made so far in running a much better airline overall -- including significant improvements across our operations -- has created credibility with those who choose to invest in our future with exit financing.
They believe, as I do, in our ability to continue to improve the fundamental business of United.
The improvements we are making in efficiency and effectiveness across the company and refocusing United on our customers are critical to our successful future.
As with everything we have done to date, success is in the quality of the work, and in the execution of the work -- in every aspect of our business, regardless of whether it is on the frontline or it is a staff position every day. That's where we'll focus our efforts and how we will strengthen our core business next year.
With a significantly stronger United, we will also be able to turn our attention to providing better tools for our employees, so that everyone can do the work, and know that you are supported in your efforts.
This has been a very important year for our company. We have shown what we can do and what we have every intention of doing as we go forward and become a leader in the industry.
My thanks, and my best wishes, to you and to your families.
We look forward to working together in 2006, as one company, one United.
That's all for now. I'll be talking to you again soon. Until then, stay focused on our customers and on one another -- and stay united.
