Hi this is Glenn. As we continue to focus on our current significant financial challenges and the ongoing constructive dialogue with the United union coalition, I want to take a moment today to speak to what I firmly believe our ambition must be for United to succeed in the future.
Despite the current understandable distractions, it is absolutely essential that we begin to redefine our mission today so that all of us, together with our customers and competitors, fully understand our determination.
Our first step must be to establish a culture of mutual trust and mutual respect between all United employees, regardless of position. This is not only the first step, it is our most important step. Without it, we cannot succeed.
Second, we must continue to operate an excellent and safe airline, and hold ourselves accountable to the highest measurable standard of performance. Indeed, our eventual ambition will be to set this benchmark. As we succeed it will be essential for us to consistently recognize and reward our accomplishments.
Third, we must be passionate in our pursuit of customer satisfaction, and always be aware that our customers have choices. Rather than only trying to keep our customers from defecting to other airlines, our ambition must be to attract customers away from our competitors. As we do so, we will measure our progress rigorously against the most important customer satisfaction benchmarks.
And finally, we must be able to imagine a successful United 20 years from today. A United built on our traditional strengths. A United admired for our culture of mutual respect and mutual trust. A United which sets the benchmarks for operational excellence and customer satisfaction. A United which honors tradition.
But more importantly, a United that can stretch beyond the present and imagine the future with agility and with innovation to become United, the global airline of choice.
Thanks very much and have a very good week.
