United embargoes travel due to full flights that have left historically large numbers of space-available, non-revenue travelers stranded for several days in cities within the United system.
The space-available passengers that are affected include:
Travel for United employees and retirees, their travel eligibles and accompanied companions is not embargoed.
The embargo does not apply to United or other airline employees who are traveling on company business. However, employees should carefully evaluate if business travel can be avoided during a scheduled embargo period due to heavy passenger and /freight loads.
The embargo is reviewed based on flight loads and is subject to change.
It is the employee's responsibility to review travel policies for companions and to remind all pass travelers that their space on flights is NOT guaranteed. Please be aware that outbound travel is risky when return travel is embargoed.
Travel by an unaccompanied companion or other airline employee/retiree/travel eligible during an embargo is against company policy.
