We're used to having airbags in our vehicles and know that they save lives. But now, the airline industry is adding that safety feature in planes.
Stronger seats to help absorb impact on planes are already on many airlines. But, starting Tuesday, they will be required for any new aircraft.
Along with that, airlines are starting to install seatbelts with airbags. They will deploy in the blink of an eye, but will be sensored to detect the difference in turbulence.
"If the aircraft runs into something and decelerates at a great enough level to be a risk to the passengers, the airbags will deploy," says developer Bill Hagen.
The airbags are showing up on bulkhead seats, those behind galleys and bathrooms, exit rows and in business and first class.
