Beginning July 2, United employees and retirees can take advantage of expanded interline travel privileges with Aer Lingus and Air Tran Airways. New agreements with these carriers increase travel opportunities for all eligible United employees and retirees. In addition, United has streamlined the process for non-U.S.-based employees and retirees requesting interline reduced-fare tickets.

  • Aer Lingus, the national airline of Ireland with service in Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East, has signed a mutual agreement to offer United employees and retirees travel privileges under the Zonal Employee Discount (ZED) program. ZED fares are designed to simplify and significantly reduce pricing for non-revenue, space-available interline travel.
  • Travel eligible employees and retirees now can travel space-available on Air Tran, which offers service to more than 56 destinations in the US and the Bahamas, for a flat fee of 25 dollars one way, plus a security fee.
  • Non-U.S.-based employees or retirees who provide a U.S. mailing and credit card billing address can now request interline reduced-fare pleasure travel tickets using the same ticket-by-mail process as U.S.-based employees and retirees. Previously, reduced-fare tickets could only be ticketed at a United airport counter. This new procedure makes it easier for employees and retirees who are based internationally to purchase tickets by mail for advance travel planning and take advantage of pleasure travel privileges.
  • For more information about the new and existing fare agreements between United and its worldwide partners, visit SkyNet at Travel, Interline Travel Privilege, Individual Carrier Agreements. Carrier eligibility requirements and restrictions are continually updated.
  • United is continuously working toward additional arrangements with carriers on a mutual basis to offer employees and retirees additional interline travel privileges. Discussions with other carriers are presently underway and announcements of enhancements to employee interline travel program privileges will be forthcoming.
  • Note: For all interline space-available travel, tickets should be obtained as far in advance as possible. Also, employees and their travel eligible passengers are required to follow each airline's policies regarding dress code, minimum check-in time and baggage limits.
