From: DEAR AFA

This week our Hotel and Transportation Committee reported that management again had failed to report plans for moving Flight Attendants from the AFA disapproved Los Angeles field hotel into an approved place of lodging.  On Wednesday, MEC President Greg Davidowitch and MEC Grievance Chairperson Maria Torre met with Onboard Senior Vice President Sean Donohue and Vice President Charlie Ahmes to secure final resolution for moving LAX field layovers to an approved hotel.  Today we have been informed that contracts have been signed with two other LAX field layover hotels.

The current hotel has been notified that United is canceling its contract with that hotel.  The cancellation notice requires a sixty (60) day period before becoming effective on August 21, 2007.  The company is currently in discussions for early release from the sixty (60) day notice contained in the contract with the hotel.

During the cancellation period we will continue to address a significant issue with the new layover hotels.  Although each of the new hotels is AFA approved, the hotel transportation is disapproved.  Our Hotel and Transportation Committee has already identified transportation solutions so that transportation can be AFA approved.

Resolution on this hotel issue could not have been possible without the persistent work of our Hotel and Transportation Committee and the detailed TVLLOG reports provided by Members who supported our Hotel Committee's work with documentation about the unacceptable conditions at this hotel.  Every Member involved played a significant role in our efforts to move Flight Attendants to an acceptable hotel.  It is important that we continue to work together on issues including addressing the shortcomings of the transportation at the new properties.
