security briefingOn September 11, 2001, Flight Attendant heroes were the first to lose their lives in a war we didn’t know we were fighting.  Today we know the enemy and we know the consequences of providing the slightest opportunity for their desired actions.  We will never give them the chance again.  As Flight Attendant Inflight Safety Professionals, we play a critical role in the defense of our airlines and the protection of the passengers in our care.

Until further notice, suspend pre-flight and boarding duties not related to safety and security, such as pre-departure or other non-essential services.  Spend extra time reviewing safety and security procedures detailed in the FAOM to ensure full utilization of boarding areas for monitoring passenger boarding with heightened situational awareness.  Report all suspicious activity immediately.

Pursers, advise all crews of this security advisory and encourage open book review of security procedures during pre-flight briefings.

Reduced staffing levels increase the need for strict adherence to all security procedures and suspension of all other duties.  Not a single distraction should be tolerated by any crewmember.

Support one another and provide our passengers with confidence in flying United Airlines during this period of heightened national and world-wide aviation security.

“We’re going to learn a lot more in the course of the investigation, and I would rather have more protection and then scale it back as we become more reassured than underestimate the problem and find out, God forbid, that we have made a tragic mistake.”  -Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff
