As United moves all of its ticketing to an electronic format, our CJA procedures now include an electronic check-in at the gate.

We have discovered an automation issue associated with the electronic CJA list, which draws from United's database for employee pass travel.  While pass travel is based on company seniority, CJA is awarded based on Flight Attendant seniority.  Unfortunately, Flight Attendant seniority is not included in the pass travel database, which means that CJA has been incorrectly awarded based on company seniority in some instances.

Flight Attendants at the gate have taken it upon themselves to correct the issue with the CSR once it is discovered, but it has created a great deal of confusion and inconvenience for Members who believe they have secured a jumpseat only to discover that it had been incorrectly awarded based on company seniority.  Without a paper ticket, Customer Service has no way to tell who should be awarded CJA status based on Flight Attendant seniority.

AFA has met with the company and brought this issue to their attention.  We are seeking a quick solution for the automation.  In the mean time, where available, paper CJA tickets may still be utilized and they will continue to provide the correct date for award of the jumpseat.  As an alternate, cabin jumpseat cards can still be presented to establish the correct seniority for boarding as a CJA.
