As Flight Attendants in CDG, EWR, PHL confront the challenges associated with the closures, their AFA Local Officers have been working closely with our MEC Officers and Committee Members to advocate for the best possible provisions to help ease the difficulty of this process. The company has agreed to positive accommodations for several issues, all of which are agreed to on a non-precedent basis.
Two BP-3 passes on United mainline only will be provided for 180 days following the closure of our domicile. Unlimited BP-7 passes on United mainline or United Express will be provided for nine months following the closure of our domicile. Travel will not be restricted to regular days off and Flight Attendants will not be required to initiate a move in order to qualify for the passes. Travel may be between either the former domicile or the airport closest to the Flight Attendant’s residence and the new domicile.
AFA and the company will waive the requirement of Section 22.A.3. for the six month restriction on request of a transfer to a new domicile.
The company will approve travel for the Flight Attendant and a companion of his or her choice on the familiarization trip to the new domicile. Travel will not be restricted to spouse or domestic partner.
In addition to the eleven IST classes previously offered for the 2006 year, the company will provide twelve additional classes under the same parameters.

For those affected by the base closures in EWR, PHL, and CDG, the company will accept resignation and approve the passes listed on Contract page 309, for Flight Attendants with 20 years of service with United. The company will not require six months notice of resignation before approving the “20 Year Passes.”
The company will be able to provide the option of paid parking in Philadelphia or the new domicile. Employee parking at the airport in Philadelphia will be available for $15 a year and the company will reimburse Flight Attendants for the charge.
The company has agreed to provide documentation in support of French unemployment benefits. Specifically, the company will check Box 60 on the ASSEDIC and provide this additional explanation:
“Because United Airlines has closed its Flight Attendant domicile in Paris, there is no further opportunity to be employed as a United Flight Attendant on aircraft operating from Roissy Charles de Gaulle. Mr./Mrs. ___________ does not wish to transfer to another domicile in the European Union, namely London-Heathrow or Frankfurt.”
The company’s French legal counsel and AFA’s French legal counsel shall meet jointly with UNEDIC to provide any additional information needed for a government decision on unemployment benefits.
The company has agreed to continue to provide direct deposit into French bank accounts for current CDG Flight Attendants as long as the individual maintains the following criteria:
