Hello this is Jane Allen with an Update for Friday, August 5, 2005.
The incident in Canada this week involving an Air France flight reminds us why safety is always our top priority. The successful evacuation of everyone on that flight was the best possible outcome in that situation, and it underscores the importance of your role on board the airplane.
You are trained to respond to all types of emergency situations - and when called upon - you deliver.
I hear from many grateful customers who share stories of your heroics in the face of emergencies. They use words like "professional," "knowledgeable," "skillful" and "confident" to describe your actions. And it is the expert execution of your safety responsibilities that has led to the successful outcome in many emergency situations, though thankfully, they continue to be a rare occurrence. Our customers look to you - and know they can count on you - to get them through any crisis.
You receive the best safety training in our industry - and it is my fervent hope that you will never be called upon to use it. But if you are, I am confident that you are prepared to do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety and well being of our employees and customers. Thank you for maintaining your focus on safety, security and our customers, all of which are so critical to our success.
You'll be interested to know that our corporate safety department is taking a close look at what happened in Toronto to see if there are any lessons we can learn from what happened there.
Finally, you've probably heard in the news that United and the Creditors' Committee have agreed - at the Committee's request - that the company not file its Disclosure Statement and Plan of Reorganization (POR) at this time. It's important to note that the company was ready to file the POR and Disclosure Statement on Monday but we did not do so at the request of the Creditors' Committee. Both parties agree that this approach and timing can help facilitate an even smoother exit process. In fact, by investing the additional time now, we believe that this will ultimately result in a better outcome for our employees and all of our key stakeholders.
We now expect to file our POR and related materials in approximately one month and expect to have additional details on exit timing at that point.
That's all I have for today. Thank you for making it a safe and successful week.
