This is Jane Allen with a special message for Thursday, July 21.

As you are undoubtedly aware, there have been additional bombings in London today, targeting subways and buses. Thankfully, there has only been one reported injury and no reports of any United employees being harmed. While the details are still unfolding, we will, as a precautionary measure, be housing flight attendants and pilots coming into London Heathrow at field hotels during the next three days.

These incidents are unsettling for all of us. Unfortunately, however, they are part of the new reality of the world in which we live and work. I want to emphasize that the safety and security of our people is of paramount concern to Onboard and United as a whole, and we'll continue to take necessary and prudent measures on your behalf when there is a risk to your safety. However, I would also ask you to take necessary and prudent measures from a personal perspective - be observant and vigilant when you are working and traveling, particularly in major metropolitan areas around the world. Here are some tips that you've probably heard before, but bear repeating during these times:
· Be cognizant of your surroundings;
· Plan your travel in a manner that makes sense and follows the advice of local authorities in the city in which you are traveling; and,
· Report any suspicious activity that you may observe to local authorities.

Finally, when you have a layover, please let your purser or a crew member know of your plans during that layover. Knowing the whereabouts of our people or knowing how to account for everyone becomes critically important in the event of a disturbance in a city United serves. We want to know that you are safe and that we can say with confidence that our people are out of harm's way for the sake of everyone, including your families.

Thanks for listening. Please continue to look out for each other and fly safely.
