The company today announced that they intend to recall an additional 150 Flight Attendants from voluntary furlough per Section 21.A.4.c. of our Contract. Record load factors and higher than expected Flight Attendant attrition are contributing factors in the decision to recall. Flight Attendants junior to and including those with system seniority number 10820, with an SW classification seniority date of May 10, 1993, as listed on the System Seniority List dated June 16, 2005, are subject to recall from voluntary furlough. This is a permanent recall. We recognize this will present unique challenges for our flying partners being recalled and we offer our assistance and understanding during their return to work.

The recall will be conducted in inverse seniority order. In accordance with Section 21.A.3.e. of the Contract, all Flight Attendants being recalled will return to the domiciles from which they were furloughed. United will send notification via FedEx or certified mail no later than Tuesday, June 21, 2005 to those being recalled.

This recall is in addition to the 500 Flight Attendants previously recalled effective July 25, 2005 and August 8, 2005. The company will not offer Flight Attendants senior to May 10, 1993 and with scheduled return dates of October 31, 2005 and beyond, the option to return early and these Members will maintain their original return date. The following is a breakdown of the number of Flight Attendants to be recalled at each domicile and includes the SW Classification Seniority of the most senior Flight Attendant to be recalled on each recall date:

Hardship Returns

Our Contract, per Section 21.A.3.f., provides Flight Attendants on furlough the ability to request a return to work due to hardship, “with the approval of the Company.” It has been our experience that the company criteria for a hardship return generally relate to a life-changing event such as a death or divorce.
