The Aviary promotional graphicOn January 3, 2003, I received a letter from Silver Tree, a LHRSW Flight Attendant.  She told me that she was going to be making a movie about flight attendants and could I put up an announcement for F/A volunteers.

Most movies about flight attendants are crappy.  Like, um, "A View from the Top".  The actors portraying us generally come across as idiots when screenplays about flying are written by people who have never read a LOF.  Of course, people who read LOFs are probably not screenplay writing experts either.  Nevertheless…

And so, I posted that announcement, wished her well, and sort of forgot about the whole thing, much like you would a crewmember who says, "Yeah, I may meet you down in the hotel lobby at 7:00 for dinner---but don't wait for me if I'm not there."  Yeah right.  9 out of 10, they won't show up.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I received a new letter several days ago from Silver, this one dated May 7, 2005 in which she writes:

A couple of years ago I wrote you about a flight attendant movie I was planning to make.  After much hard work (and living of potatoes and rice for two years) it's done!

Are you kidding me?  Really?  I checked out her site and sure enough, Silver wrote, produced, shot, and completed her movie.  I'll be darned...

I've not yet seen the film, but plan to.  Kudus to anyone who sticks with their vision and makes a dream work, potatoes and rice meals 24/7 if necessary!

She included a link to the movie website in her letter: http://theaviarymovie.com/  Go check it out.

Once I've had the chance to see the DVD, I'll write my own review of the movie here.  In the meantime, this is what one of your flying partners has done with her off-time; using a combination of talent, patience, and most of all really hard work I'm sure.

Congratulations to Silver Tree and the rest of the team who created 'The Aviary'.  Well done, Silver.  You pulled it off!  Way to go…
