Hello this is Jane Allen with an update for Friday, November 11, 2005.
It seems like only yesterday that I announced our plans to hire flight attendants for 2006. Here it is just three months later, and we're ready to begin taking applications on Sunday, Nov. 13. United issued a press release this morning announcing our intent to hire approximately 2000 flight attendants next year. It has already generated lots of interest and we're receiving a great deal of media coverage around this good news story.
We'll begin accepting applications exclusively at united.com/flightattendant for positions based in Chicago and Washington, D.C. We are recruiting candidates for new hire classes beginning in January and they will begin to join you on the line in the month of March.
You can read more about this in today's NewsReal and on the Onboard page of SkyNet, and I'll share more information about recruitment and new hire training in the coming weeks. And if you know someone who is interested in joining your profession, tell them to log onto united.com/flightattendant to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
I have more good news this week concerning International Services Training or IST. I'm very pleased to announce that we have successfully finalized an accommodation with the AFA to provide at least eleven IST classes in 2006. We heard from many flight attendants who were waiting for an opportunity to become IST qualified, and this accommodation will lead to additional classes in 2006. The first four will be held in Denver in January. We will also offer three classes in Chicago, two in San Francisco and two in Washington D.C. in February, March and April respectively.
In order to make these opportunities available, it was necessary to make some adjustments to the standard training provisions. Flight attendants attending these classes will only receive training pay and will not be paid per diem nor reimbursed for hotel accommodations. You'll find details about the 2006 IST classes on SkyNet and bidding information for these training classes will be published in the January through April cover letters.
Finally, in light of recent incidents involving flight attendants on layovers, I ask all of you to please take time to read the latest Hotboard that was issued on Nov. 10. The incidents recounted in the Hotboard illustrate how important it is for you to be careful at all times, even in situations that might otherwise seem safe.
Please make your personal safety your top priority at all times, and follow the precautions outlined in the Hotboard to keep yourself safe.
That's all for today. Until next week, take care of our customers and each other.
