Hi everyone. This is Patti. And welcome to FLT-LINE on Friday, March 28.
There's lots of good news to report today, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you.
Yesterday United announced that it had reached a tentative six-year agreement with the Air Line Pilots Association which was endorsed by ALPA's Master Executive Council.
The tentative agreement, which will save approximately $1.1 billion dollars in annual labor costs, addresses United's short- and long-term cash needs and supports the company's plan for transformation. The agreement is subject to approval by United's Board of Directors, and ratification by the pilots.
Speaking of contract ratification, our meteorologists, represented by the TWU, have ratified a new contract. The agreement, which includes a 13 percent pay cut, generates the savings targeted by the company, so United will withdraw its 1113c motion as it pertains to the TWU.
Judge Eugene Wedoff, who is presiding over our bankruptcy case, gave final approval to a settlement we've reached with the IRS. United will receive approximately $365 million dollars in tax overpayments and refunds.
This past Wednesday, United beat four single-day operating records. It was certainly one of our most impressive days in our 77-year history. We set three new records in departure performance and one in arrival performance. Last year, with your help, we broke 35 company records and, as you know, were ranked number one in best overall ontime performance in the airline industry for 2002. It's this kind of news that will keep our customers coming back to fly with us.
While some of our customers are not flying right now because of the war, the most recent data available shows that both our domestic and international bookings are comparable to and remain in line with our major U.S. competitors. In addition to our stellar, operating performance lately, it will be the exceptional service that you are able to provide our customers that gives us the edge over the competition.
Exceptional service is exactly what was offered to our very special customer, two-and-ahalf year old, Logan Vallee, on his Make-A-Wish flight from Chicago to Orlando yesterday. It was a special day as well for his older brother, Jacob Vallee who was celebrating his fourth birthday. The crew presented Logan, Jacob and his mother with special, donated gifts arranged by our own Jeff Hughes of World Headquarters, and the family was upgraded to United First. The flight was an extraordinary example of how much United employees care about helping others. The flight was also special for Washington-based flight attendant Kathleen Sullivan. It was her last flight before retiring. Thanks to all who made it special for the Vallee family. And thanks to you, Kathleen, for your many years of dedicated service to United.
That's all for today. Please continue to take good care of each other, your families and our customers When we talked Tuesday I mentioned finding things to celebrate, and I hope today's news helps you to do just that. We'll talk soon. Thanks for dialing in.
