Hello, this is Glenn. On Wednesday, 57 percent of the company's mechanics who voted, voted no to the labor-cost reduction plan that we had worked out with the coalition. Since that vote was announced, the leaders of the company and I have been working with the leaders of the IAM toward resolution. It remains critical for the mechanics' union to live up to its commitment to labor-cost reductions.

There can be no doubt that the mechanics' vote was a blow to our cause with the ATSB and damaging to our prospects to secure a government-backed loan guarantee. Labor-cost savings are critical to our application and our employees need to be united around that effort.

I want to reinforce a couple of very important points that I have repeatedly made over the weeks. First, there cannot be any misunderstanding about the differences between an out-of-court restructuring of our company and a Chapter 11 filing. We can navigate our way to success in or out of court. But we have been working to avoid a filing because Chapter 11 is significantly more challenging for our employees and for the company to manage overall. Out of court, we make the decisions we think are best for our company together. After a filing, other parties with a stake in the outcome, the court and our creditors -- have a great deal of influence over what happens to our company. The process up until today has been cooperative. After a filing, that may change. We all must then follow a prescribed course that is both unpredictable and potentially adversarial.

My most important message to you today, however, is that we have an airline to run, and we have to work together to do it as well as we possibly can.

We cannot lose our momentum because of this disappointing vote. We need to continue to outperform the industry, to serve our customers with the same focus and energy that has defined us over the last few months. That must be our number one priority.

I know that we are all very involved in watching our story unfold, but please be assured, our competitors are also watching, and they're ready to take advantage of our situation. They would use this situation to create confusion with our customers and spread harmful misinformation that undermines public confidence in our company and our ability to deal with this situation ourselves.

While the leaders of the company focus on achieving the required participation by IAM 141M, we all need to do our jobs to the absolute best of our abilities. We need to make certain that everyone continues to experience United's operation running at peak performance.

Thanks for your support, thanks for your tireless work. Keep your heads up and be united. I'll talk with you again soon.
