As we know, oversold flights, severe weather, and mechanical issues can adversely affect our daily operations and on-time performance creating the potential for “Quick Turn” situations. As a result, we may find gate agents rush us to board passengers and attempt to hasten our departures as they work to make up for lost time. Although, we share the common goal of expediting the process to get the flight in the air as quickly as possible, we must never forget that safety and security out-weigh every other concern. We are Safety Professionals first and safety is our number one priority.
As Flight Attendants, to the extent we are given the opportunity to concentrate diligently on our responsibilities while safely securing the aircraft, we can assist in expediting departure. We must recognize that stressful and hurried circumstances, combined with unfamiliarity with new products and procedures, create the need for us to sharpen our focus, as we tend to every detail of our important safety responsibilities as outlined in our eFAOM.
We should endeavor to complete our boarding responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner. However, if circumstances exist that impede our progress in doing so timely and result in our being unable to perform all safety and security checks we are obligated to inform the Purser prior to door closure. In addition, we should file a (NASA) Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS), a detailed report of the events if they led to any violations. You can find the link to the ASRS reports on our homepage and in the Safety section of our website. We ask that you provide us with copies of any report you submit to ASRS, by dropping them in the Local Council mailbox in your domicile.
