Recently we have been receiving reports that hotels are requiring Flight Attendants to provide a personal credit card upon check-in for incidentals.  In 1999 United Airlines and AFA-CWA had agreed to Hotel Inspection Guidelines that are still in effect today.  The third guideline states; Hotels that do not have an on-site automated cash dispensing machine (e.g., ATM) will cash personal checks written by Flight Attendants upon presentation of a United Airlines ID, the minimum amount being fifty dollars ($50.00 U.S. dollars).  There will be no charge for 800 or credit card access telephone calls, and hotels will not require a credit card imprint for any services

If you encounter this upon arrival to any hotel United has prearranged, politely inform the hotel clerk that United has a credit card already on file and that you are not required to provide a personal credit card for your stay.  If they refuse to check you in because of this call (800) FLT-LINE, Option 2, and follow the prompts.  Once you have reached a hotel representative explain to them that the hotel is not allowing you to check-in without a personal credit card.  The crew accommodations representative should resolve the situation.  If this does not resolve the situation ensure you have the names of everyone you spoke with at the hotel and the company and call the Union immediately.

Once you have completed your ID, file a TVLLOG though Unimatic.  The Local Hotel and Transportation Committee and United Crew Accommodations will receive the report.  In your comments you should include the names of people you spoke with in the attempt to solve the problem (either from the hotel or the United Hotel Desk), relevant timelines, and a summary of your issues (simply stated).

For more information on Hotel Inspection Guidelines or filling a TVLLOG, please visit our website or contact your Local Council Office.
