For some time we’ve received a number of questions from Flight Attendants seeking to understand the timing of and the process by which Flight Attendants are removed from an ID requiring a passport or specific visa information when a passport has been surrendered for reissue or to obtain a visa.  Often the time required to obtain a passport or visa extends beyond what is anticipated when information was added into the passport surrender screen.  As a result of the delay in processing, the passport is returned within days of the operation of the next scheduled ID.

In an effort to avoid removal from an ID requiring passport and/or specific visa information and to better understand the passport surrender process, the United MEC Grievance Committee has had lengthy discussions with management about the timing of when a Flight Attendant's passport and/or visa information must be updated in Company records.  The following is our mutual understanding:

Flight Attendants should update their passport and/or visa information in Company records (FAPASS screens in Unimatic) as soon as they have their new passport and/or visa.

Flight Attendants who have surrendered their passport for renewal or to secure/replace a required visa or who are without a passport and/or visa, may be subject to removal from an ID requiring the passport and/or visa if the passport and/or required visa for the destination information is not updated in Company records (FAPASS) more than 48 hours before check-in of the ID.

Flight Attendants without updated passport and/or visa information in FAPASS who are serving Reserve may be not be assigned to and are subject to removal from any assignment for which a passport and/or visa is required.
