For some time now we’ve been fielding your questions about Cabin Jumpseat Authority (CJA) Boarding Priorities and the confusion that has resulted from not having a clear understanding of the various boarding priorities and how they are used. During this time, we have continued to identify problems to management and seek understanding.  Recently, we have obtained specific information about CJA Boarding Priorities and how they are assigned based on the specific metal being used for the segment in question.

When listing for the Jumpseat (CJA) in EmployeeRes, we are assigned a Jumpseat boarding priority.  This boarding priority is specific for each pre-merger Flight Attendant group based on the subsidiary to which the “metal” is assigned.  Pre-merger United Flight Attendants listing for CJA on pre-merger United ‘metal’ are assigned an SJ2U boarding priority, and will have priority over pre-merger Continental or Continental Micronesia Flight Attendants.  When pre-merger United Flight Attendants list for the Jumpseat (CJA) on pre-merger Continental ‘metal’ we are assigned an SK3U boarding priority and we are accommodated after the Continental and Continental Micronesia Flight Attendants.  Pre-merger United Flight Attendants have priority on pre-merger United metal while pre-merger Continental Flight Attendants have priority on metal that is considered to be pre-merger Continental metal.

Where we do see a difference in these boarding priority assignments is when we, as pre-merger United Flight Attendants, list for a flight segment operated on the 737.

These aircraft are considered to be pre-merger Continental metal for listing purposes only. As a result, pre-merger United Flight Attendants will be assigned the SK3U designation.

However, once aircraft routing assigns a specific tail number to a flight segment (approximately 72 hours prior to departure), the system makes a determination of which subsidiary 737 is being used for the flight in question.  If the aircraft scheduled is a 737 assigned to the pre-merger United subsidiary, pre-merger United Flight Attendants with the SK3U designation will sort and be cleared ahead of any pre-merger Continental or CMI Flight Attendants. Please refer to the unitedafa.org website for a listing of the specific boarding priorities by subsidiary and work group.

If you encounter any difficulty during the assignment of the Jumpseat on 737 aircraft assigned to the United fleet (73B and 37K), or if you are not cleared into the Jumpseat as would be expected, you should submit a worksheet through your Local Council.
