Many Flight Attendants have asked for a Short-Term Disability insurance plan currently not offered through United. One that can help cover expenses when you are out of work from an off the job injury or illness Your United AFA MEC Benefits Committee has teamed up with Design Benefits Online to find a plan with group rates for United Flight Attendants and terms that would work for our diverse workgroup.

Aflac group Short-Term Disability insurance is income protection  for flight attendants who cannot work due to a covered non-occupational illness or injury.    If your sick leave bank balance is low, you may have no income protection from the time it runs out and you return to work. Or, If you elected  United’s Long Term Disability there is 9 month waiting period before benefits are paid.  With the Aflac plan, you can select the amount of monthly benefit you want from $300 per month to $2000 per month. The plan covers your for 8 months after a 30 day waiting period. There are no off-sets to this plan. Meaning, you can collect your sick leave benefit or State disability benefit and this benefit at the same time.

A web based enrollment is available by going to www.unitedafa.org. From the front page of the United AFA website, you can click the Aflac link which takes you to a designated and secure website that will contain all information regarding this plan including plan summaries and rates, and walk you through the enrollment process.  Alternatively, online enrollment assistance is available at 855-236-9743 Monday through Friday 7 am to 6 pm Pacific Standard Time
