Cross Over Counterproposal Rejected

Source: Various Reports

Date: Dec 06, 2013

United has rejected the cross over flying counter-proposal.  Sam Risoli, Senior Vice President of Inflight Services, mentions that the AFA's counter-proposal is "designed to prevent, not promote, agreement on cross-over and shift blame to the Company for that outcome."

In a letter today titled "Dec. 6, 2013 crossover letter to S-UA AFA" published on Flying Together, Mr. Risoli mentions that:

“When we met on November 25 to discuss United's cross-over offer, I conveyed to you the importance of conducting the cross-over at the same time as the on-going voluntary furlough, and that United could not commit that no involuntary furloughs would occur without knowing the participation levels for either program.

Your November 26 proposal would require that we delay a cross-over until after the voluntary furlough closes and commit that no flight attendant will be involuntary furloughed, regardless of participation in the voluntary furlough or cross-over. As you well know, these conditions are unrealistic and unacceptable, and they appear obviously designed to prevent, not promote, agreement on cross-over and shift blame to the Company for that outcome.”

AFA has responded, and stated:

Today management rejected our counter-proposal to their 2013 Cross Over proposal.  The full text of our very reasonable counter-proposal can be found on our website.  We are disappointed the company outright rejected our reasonable request to adjust the timeline so Flight Attendants would be free of coercion in making any crossover decision while at the same time providing management with an opportunity to affirm their commitment that no Flight Attendant would be forced out of work as a result of the productivity improvements sought during the prior round of bargaining. Greg's response to Sam is available on our website.
