Another weather system is approaching the New York metropolitan area today and will impact United’s operations in the region. Winter Storm (Nor’Easter) “Athena” is currently off the cost of Virginia and south of Long Island NY, and moving inland this afternoon and evening.
As a result of this storm bringing high-winds, rain and snow into the area, which remains challenged in many areas for power and utilities, United will be cancelling a number of flights into and out of the New York / New Jersey region. Potential disruptions may also occur in Boston and parts of Pennsylvania.
Currently the affected areas are experiencing light rain and snow which is predicted to intensify throughout the afternoon and evening into heavier snow mixing with ice. Conditions are expected to continue through tomorrow morning.
As of today, United is cancelling most flights from LGA, JFK and EWR between noon and 1400 EST today through 12 noon EST tomorrow. PHL, BDL and BOS may be impacted as well. The storm is not expected to impact the D.C. metropolitan area significantly.
Check your schedule and carry your Contract for procedures on cancellations and reassignments.
