We are excited to announce that beginning next week, all uniformed United Flight Attendants will be able to take advantage of the Known Crew Member (KCM) program.  Currently KCM is located at 31 airports around the country, and in order to use a KCM checkpoint you must be in uniform.  Until KCM ID cards are available for Flight Attendants, you must present your United Crew ID, a government issued photo ID and state your file number to the TSA officer at the KCM entry point.  We ask you to keep in mind that all Crewmembers are subject to random full screenings and if the KCM TSA Officer is unable to verify employment status, Crewmembers should proceed through the standard screening process and then notify their Onboard supervisor.

Over six years ago AFA introduced and advocated for a process that would recognize and include Flight Attendants as “known crew members,” and provide a simplified and more streamlined process for screening procedures for Flight Attendants. As first responders, we are an instrumental part of aviation security and have a personal role in security onboard the aircraft. We take that role seriously and, as part of the known security network, the KCM program recognizes the importance of the work we do and role we fulfill.

AFA promoted and was the first to introduce the idea, which subsequently resulted in legislation that contemplates a process by which Flight Attendant clearance through passenger screening procedures is expedited using established security clearances related to our employment as certified safety and security professionals. AFA partnered with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in a process that will allow quicker crew transit time through airports and permit the TSA to focus on passengers vs. known and trusted Flight Attendants. This initiative is supported by the Flight Attendant Coalition and will benefit all Flight Attendants with Union representation.

KCM security screening will be available at all US Domicile locations.
