DEN Reserve Rumor

Thanks to Jody Weant who gave us permission to publish the article below from her Council 9 Newsletter.  We had gotten some questions about this from other even non-Denver F/As and so we thought we'd include this helpful article here also.

Our Domicile Manager, Steve Pais, stopped into a briefing and made the remark that Denver was going to become a "RESERVE BASE" with 75% of the Flight Attendants on reserve. I heard about it right after it happened and discussed the remark with Steve. I told him that not only was this not contractually viable, but that this remark was going to cause problems with our Flight Attendants. He agreed, after our conversation, not to continue along this course. Let me try to explain why this isn't correct:

The top 25% of every domicile is exempt from reserve rotation. The remaining 75% (except for those under 5 years) are designated either "A" or "B" for reserve rotation identification.

The top 25% of every domicile is exempt from reserve rotation. The remaining 75% (except for those under 5 years) are designated either "A" or "B" for reserve rotation identification. This letter doesn't necessarily mean a Flight Attendant will be on reserve rotation as all reserve quotas will be assigned from the junior most Flight  Attendant upward. Half of the remaining 75% (less those under 5 years) are designated by their letter to be on reserve, but even then, we all know that by assigning reserve from the most junior up, many on their reserve letter month do not fly reserve.

Keep in mind that all Flight Attendants who began Flight Attendant training on or after 1977 will serve on continuous reserve status for five (5) years or until such time as their seniority allows them to be awarded a line of flying. After such five (5) year period, they shall be designated "A" or "B" and will serve on reserve status in accordance with their seniority and group designation.
