From DEAR AFA:

The Union has prevailed on the principal issue in the grievance MEC 11-04 - Tidying.  This grievance was filed based on the Company's violation of Section 4.K.  The System Board decision mandates that Flight Attendants working TED flights of three hours or more of scheduled flight time are no longer required to tidy after the last terminating passenger has deplaned.  The award confirms our tidying responsibilities consistent on TED and non-TED flights.  The award is effective immediately.  AFA has advised the company that there will be no repercussions for any Flight Attendant acting within the guidelines of the award.  Additionally, we will be working with Representatives from Labor Relations to update the Flight Attendant Operation Manual (FAOM) with the correct information as soon as possible.

When the company introduced the addition of Unimatic E-Note in the 1990s, management confirmed with AFA that it would not be "used as a substitute for traditional communications (in person, on paper or by phone) with Flight Attendants for official notice of schedule changes, training dates, work history entries or other similar official notifications.  It may be used to augment other forms of notification, and to advise Flight Attendants of newsworthy business information which is not mandatory-to-know reading."  The same is true with united.com e-mails.  Electronic communication is not official notification except for Flight Attendants based at the modified co-terminal, LAS.

Notification of changes to your schedule must be accomplished in person, through telephone conversations and in limited situations by a notice in your mailbox.  Flight Attendants in the purser position are not responsible for informing the rest of the crew of a delay or schedule change; these notifications need to be handled by the scheduler Text messages, ACARS or other non-approved forms of notification are not acceptable.  Contact your Local AFA Office if you feel have been contacted incorrectly.
