Ladies and Gentlemen:

We are pleased to announce some improvements to the Employee Pass Policy at United Airlines, effective November 1, 2007.  The new policy in summary will include:

  • No service charge for employees or retirees for economy travel world-wide on United or Ted.
  • The Performance Incentive Travel service-charge waived certificates will be extended from one year to a two year usage period.
  • Performance Incentive segments will be restored as unused if actual travel occurs in economy class.  (Recommendation: retain documents until confirmed)
  • All service charges (excluding companion) will be reduced between 5% and 13% of current pricing by basing service charges on a percentage of the Zonal Employee Discount (ZED) methodology, consistent with the industry.
  • Hawaii pricing will be merged into domestic pricing.
  • United Express economy seating will continue to be service-charge waived, but first class seating will now apply a charge.
  • Applicable transportation taxes and fees will continue to apply.

Management is sending a detailed letter about these changes to active and retired employee homes this week.

This will enhance the world-wide travel benefits we consistently work to improve for Flight Attendants and these improvements are directly related to our advocacy at numerous meetings with company representatives and senior management.

We recognize management's welcome response to our advocacy while we remain committed to achieving additional improvements such as expanded Zed fares, further reduced or eliminated fares in all cabins, additional reciprocal cabin seat agreements and collaborative efforts to address country travel taxes applied to employee travel, particularly out of the United Kingdom.

We encourage all Flight Attendants to thoroughly review the application of this new travel policy to ensure you are able to fully benefit.

In Solidarity,

Greg Davidowitch, President
United Master Executive Council
