August 16, 2006

Ladies and Gentlemen:

We conducted a meeting on Monday to clarify procedures associated with the heightened security that has been in place since August 10, 2006.  The meeting included leadership representatives from the Association of Flight Attendants and United (Onboard Service, and Corporate Safety and Security).

Everyone is in agreement that every flight must meet the highest standards of safety and security, while continuing to provide excellent customer service.  As a result, we will continue to work collaboratively to meet these objectives.

Going forward, United and the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) commit to work together to:

  • Focus on prioritized, timely and relevant communications during times of heightened security.
  • Review current security training for Flight Attendants.
  • In support of our joint objectives, Onboard and AFA will partner with the Quality Assurance group within United's Corporate Safety division to conduct a procedural review and implement changes where appropriate.

We recognize that these are challenging times for you and your colleagues.  Closer coordination on our part will reduce any ambiguity or confusion that could make your job more difficult.  In the meantime, we will work to learn from our most recent experiences and look for opportunities for improvement in the above mentioned areas.

Sincerely,

Sean Donohue, Senior Vice President
United Airlines Onboard Service

Greg Davidowitch, President
AFA United Master Executive Council
