We know that United travel benefits are important to you, and we understand that they may provide a significant benefit for you and your family. We want to show our support in easing your transition during this difficult time. Therefore, effective January 1, 2003, United is extending the travel benefits of furloughed and surplused employees (including separated regular part-time IAM-represented employees) who were eligible for 90 days of continued travel benefits and who were affected by the reduction-in-force on or after October 1, 2002. Your travel benefits are extended for an additional 90 days from the date your initial 90-day travel eligibility period expires. International payroll employees should contact their Human Resources Representative to determine their eligibility for this extension. If you were furloughed or surplused between October 1-10, 2002, and you or your travel eligibles plan to travel on or before January 10, 2003, please call the Benefits Service Center (BSC) at 1-800-482-5236 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Central time before initiating travel to verify that your Apollo FNZ profile is active for travel. There is no need to call the BSC for travel after January 10th.

The extension continues unlimited space-available pleasure travel privileges on United and United Express for you and your eligible dependents, including parents. Interline travel and companion travel is not permitted. The process for standby travel is the same. You must use employee write-your-own pleasure travel tickets imprinted with your travel card, and you must list for travel by calling 1-800-UAL-LIST (1-800-825-5478). If you need additional employee write-your-own pleasure travel tickets, you may request them through your former manager/supervisor, coordinator or administrative assistant to whom you turned in your travel card. Or, if your department has implemented a different approach for receiving additional tickets, continue to request write-your-own tickets using that process.

Travel for you, your eligible dependents and your parents must be completed within the extended 90-day travel eligibility period. For example, if your travel benefits expire on January 15, 2003, you may continue using pleasure travel benefits through April 15, 2003. You are responsible for payment of any applicable service charges, taxes and fees, which will be invoiced and mailed to your home address. If you do not remit payment for applicable service charges in a timely manner, your travel benefits may be revoked.

We understand the importance of travel benefits and hope that by offering this extension, you will have additional opportunities to spend time with your loved ones. If you have any questions regarding the continuation of your travel benefits, please call the Benefits Service Center at 1-800-482-5236. Representatives are available from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central time.
