Sharon Stone Seat Returns!

The FAA has just issued a new directive (read: an order) for all crews working the Airbus 320 aircraft.  This new policy dated 3/12/01 is the following:

  • If your A320 is equipped with a center-aisle jumpseat, determine if the forward and aft direct view mirrors are installed and usable (refer to IH-2230).  If they are, follow the pre-flight assignments in your IH.  If either mirror is missing or inoperative, the FAA has directed that flight attendant #2 sit in the center-aisle jumpseat for optimal cabin view.

In other words, if you don't see that mirror next to the galleys (either forward or aft), or if that mirror is broken, F/A #2 (or F/A #4 if you have more than 3 flight attendants working) will have to assume the Sharon Stone position in that aisle jumpseat.

Here are the new evacuation responsibilities, depending on the number of flight attendants working the flight:

The new evacuation responsibilities with three flight attendants onboard:
NOTE: F/A #2 takes the center jumpseat!

Flight Attendant Number

Evacuation Responsibilities

1 Purser

1L Inbd Evac Signal; Exit 1L

2

3

2L Outbd Evac Signal; Emer Lights; Exits 2L and 2R

The new evacuation responsibilities with four or five flight attendants onboard:
NOTE: F/A #4 takes the center jumpseat!

This FAA directive is temporary.  The Airbus 320 mirrors are required only until the removal of the center-aisle jumpseat and a closet modification can be accomplished.  If your A320 no longer has a center-aisle jumpseat, refer to the Inflight Handbook for all pre-flight assignments.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to use that center-aisle jumpseat for CJA!
