August 14, 1989 - This photo of Neptune was taken by Voyager 2 at a range of 14.8 million kilometers (9.2 million miles). (NASA/JSC)
Bright, wispy "cirrus type" clouds are seen overlying the Great Dark Spot at its southern (lower) margin and over its northwest (upper left) boundary.
It's windy and stormy on Neptune. Despite its incredible distance from the Sun, Neptune's winds are three times stronger than Jupiter's and nine times stronger than Earth's.
It's beautiful, but not a calm place to be.
