Irregularities Impacting Call Wait Times – A Review of Self-Help Procedures

This past weekend, severe weather impacted operations across the system. As a result, there were some of us who were faced with very long call wait times or instances of being unable to reach the Hotel Desk for assistance. It was reported to Local Council Offices that some Flight Attendants were unsure of the procedures they should follow during these irregular operations or how to utilize contractual self-help for hotel and transportation issues during these irregular operations as provided for under the terms of our JCBA.

Self-help is not only permissible under the terms of the contract, during these types of wide-spread irregular operations, it is strongly encouraged. Self-help is a contractual provision that, when utilized, ensures Flight Attendants receive adequate rest and are available to fly when the operation resumes.

Flight Attendants unfamiliar with the process of how to secure a hotel room when unable to reach the Crew Desk or Hotel Desk review the following publicationin an effort to familiarize themselves with self-help procedures.

Additional information is available on our website, unitedafa.org.Questions can be directed to your Local Council Representatives.
