The 2018 Profit Sharing percentage for Flight Attendants was announced last week for the period from 1/1/18 - 12/31/18.  Eligible earnings is 4.6115% based on $3,585 million adjusted pre-tax profit.

Having posted a profit for 2018, eligible employees have the opportunity to contribute a portion of Profit Sharing payments to her/his company-sponsored retirement plan account (e.g., 401(k), PRAP, or UK Group Stakeholder Plan). Employees with less than one year of service on December 31, 2018, Officers, Level 1 – 4 employees and certain other positions are not eligible to participate in the Profit Sharing Plan.

Flight Attendants can view their personalized profit sharing statement by logging in to Flying Together, Employee Services, Compensation & Incentives, click on Your 2018 Statement under the Profit Sharing header or by direct access from the following link:

Individual Flight Attendants may elect to contribute a portion of her/his Profit Sharing into her/his company-sponsored retirement plan accounts:

1.    Pre-tax to your 401(k) plan or U.K. Stakeholder Account

2.    Roth 401(k) 

3.    Post tax 401(k)

The sum of the percentages allocated to any combination of the company sponsored retirement plan accounts may be less than or equal to 100% however, it cannot be greater.  Any unallocated amount will be paid in cash. The election window closes as of 11:59PM CT, February 4, 2019.

Distribution of Profit Sharing will begin February 27, 2019 and will be disbursed by direct deposit or physical check depending upon the employees established payroll method. Profit Sharing distribution for Flight Attendants at International domiciles will occur as part of the March 1, 2019 payroll check.

Reviewing Out of Base Trades

Section 7.J. provides Flight Attendants with unlimited trip trades with and pick ups from open time in their base and unlimited trip trade with Flight Attendants in their base subject to the guidelines in Section 7.I.  In addition, 

Less than 14 hours (14:00) prior to departure, Flight Attendants may pick up open time in any base regardless of special qualifications for the pairing.

Less than 14 hours (14:00) prior to departure, Flight Attendants may pick up advertised pairings in any base provided that the Flight Attendant has the designated special qualification for the advertised pairing, if any.

NOTE: Pick up of an open time pairing designated to have a special qualification by a Flight Attendant not having the designate special qualification may be denied if Crew Scheduling anticipates that a Reserve with the special qualification will be used to cover the pairing. 

Two questions that are asked with some frequency include the following:

Q: If I pick up an Out of Base pairing, can I advertise that pairing for days off?

A: You may give the pairing to a Flight Attendant assigned to the base from which the pairing originates in exchange for days off by contacting Crew Scheduling 

Q: Can I participate in an Out of Base trade or pick up if an International Base is involved?

A:Flight Attendants based in the 50 United States and Guam may pick up any pairings from another base.

Flight Attendants based in Hong Kong, Narita, Frankfurt and London may only pick up International pairings from another base.  International pairings are those pairings which contain only flying to and from South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. Flying to and from Guam and any other island countries outside of the Caribbean is also considered International Flying. Flight Attendants based in Hong Kong, Narita, Frankfurt and London may not pick up pairings between Honolulu and Guam.

Note: Due to work visa requirements, Flight Attendants based in Hong Kong, Narita, Frankfurt and London may not pick up domestic pairings or Mixed International pairings from another base because Visa/Passport status cannot be linked to domicile codes.

Domestic and Mixed International pairings are pairings that involve flying within the 50 United States, Mexico, Canada, Central America or the Caribbean.
