Dear Jumpseatnews Reader,

This past Saturday, March 20, 2004, the Jumpseatnews.com website was attacked by an Internet worm called W32.Witty.

The W32.Witty worm writes random data onto the hard drives of computers equipped with the Black Ice and Real Secure Internet firewall products. It causes drives to fail and makes it impossible to restart the PCs.

This worm destroyed the computer that hosts Jumpseatnews. Buh-bye In Our News, Buh-bye Complete Unimatic, and buh-bye Cocky.

Luckily, we had two things going for us:

  1. An excellent hosting company that responded immediately and worked non-stop for almost 48 hours to transfer back and recover the data. They know that Jumpseatnews is an amateur site. They took pity on us, you see.
  2. We had a backup copy of Jumpseatnews.

Don’t worry; you won’t get this stupid virus, as it only attacks very specific corporate computers running a specific brand of firewall software.

I’m very sorry for the site being down for as long as it was. I want to grab the person who created that virus by the throat and

Anyhow, the site is back to normal…somewhat. I lost all my articles written during March 17-20. This included the info about the new Jumpseatnews site redesign, as well as some other info.

Quite honestly, I’m too tired and lazy to re-write all that stuff. So just wait until April 15, 2004 when we debut live with the new Jumpseatnews. You’ll like it.

Talk to you later.  Ba$#@rd computer virus!!!

Christopher
