Quote of the day goes to...

[drum roll please]

...United Airlines NewsReal dated November 29, 2004.

In which they state:

United remains committed to attempting to reach consensual agreements with all of its unions to achieve the necessary labor cost savings through fair and equitable changes to wages, benefits and work rules.

Fair and equitable changes to wages, benefits and work rules?

Fair and equitable?

What yuppie in what cubical at what corner of the North Building WHQ came up with that phrase?  Have they lost their minds?

None of this is fair and equitable.  It never has been since certain upper management individuals helped lead screw this airline to the ground.  It's insulting to read or hear phrases like that.

Besides, let's dost not forget thy tone in earlier NewsReal.

Here's the full NewsReal:

As reported in NewsReal last week, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Friday, Nov. 19 set a Section 1113(c) trial date for January 10-14 should the company be unable to reach consensual agreements with its unions before then.  This schedule will enable United to realize the critical cost savings needed by mid-January to maintain an adequate cash balance.

To meet the Court-approved timetable for the 1113 process, on Wednesday United undertook the next procedural step by filing an 1113(c) motion with the Court seeking the authority to reject its current collective bargaining agreements.  This motion does not mean that the CBAs are being cancelled or changed now, rather it is a necessary procedural step to start the legal process to ensure savings are achieved by the time they are needed in the event that consensual agreements are not reached.

United remains committed to attempting to reach consensual agreements with all of its unions to achieve the necessary labor cost savings through fair and equitable changes to wages, benefits and work rules.  We are eager to continue discussions with our unions and remain open to considering all workable options and alternatives that will provide the long-lasting savings United needs to exit Chapter 11 successfully.

Be sure to keep an eye on NewsReal for updates on the 1113 process.
