Apollo Enhances Security with
New Password Procedures
--------------------------------
Computer passwords provide the first line of defense in the world of information technology. Apollo's parent company, Galileo, is tightening the
reservation system's password procedures to protect its information and enhance security beginning Sept. 15.

As passwords expire, employees will be prompted to change their passwords when they log into Apollo. Beginning next Monday, employees will need to use
the following guidelines when resetting passwords. The new passwords should:

Include both letters and numbers;

Be between six and 10 characters long;

Exclude the employee's name (first or last), or an employee's identification or file number;

Exclude common words such as United, travel, summer, etc.; and

Change five times before a previous password can be used again.

According to Information Security, these new procedures are necessary to help United meet industry and corporate standards, reduce the chance
of unauthorized access and protect company confidential passenger and employee information.

Information Security also shares these tips on password management: Select a password that is easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess (i.e. the first letters of a song: bot4oj for 'Born on the Fourth of July');

Never share your password with anyone; and

Do not write down your password -- if you must write your password, store it in a locked location.

Employees with questions about these changes can send them to Information-Security-Awareness@ual.com.
