BidPlus Now Operational

During the past 24 hours, we received more letters regarding the BidPlus site being down than any other subject.  Sort of sadly ironic considering it was Sept 11!

The BidPlus situation brought back memories: In May 2002 we also experienced problems with a web hosting company.  They were problems of a different nature, but the same outcome.  I know what it's like to suddenly have the lights go down, the cow kick the bucket or pail or whatever it was over, and a hot time on the Internet tonight with all your website buh-bye.  I could imagine poor Skip (who was stuck out on a trip) faced with no website and hundreds of flight attendants (Yours Truly included) not able to download the bid packages.

(By the way, the bids are now available to download through BidPlus and the lines just as crummy as ever.  As of this morning, the BidPlus website itself is running mostly normal; sans a few graphics...  So bid away!!)

Here's an excerpt from his letter:

To get you caught up, on Wednesday, 9/10/03, our Internet Service Provider (Interland hosting in Atlanta) experienced what can only be described as a major power surge. That surge went through and whacked a bunch of their servers, including the one that hosts our web site. The result is that it rendered our site useless. We still only have limited access to it to start the massive repair process. All of our web pages (over 200) were deleted! That's why our home page looks so funny now (www.bidplus.com). And it's also why you were not able to download or upload your bids, update or access your profile, purchase additional time, download a copy of the program, or access any of the Knowledge Base. In short, it was a catastrophe.

It will probably take several days to get everything back the way it was, so please forgive us if our email responses are not as quick and personalized as you are use to.

Again, we thank you for your understanding and encouragement. And those of you that have been with us for a while know that challenges are just part of the cyber business, but we don't give up easily! We very much appreciate your continued support and patronage.

DISCLAIMER:  Should the Jumpseatnews site ever go down, Bailey and I will be taking a long vacation and tossing the computer out the window as we fly over Aruba.  When we return, we will be so disoriented and confused that we'll plop down at a cubical in WHQ and do something odd like creatively 'edit' the SVP Updates for a few weeks.  Once we come to our senses, we'll be back---so be patient and know in advance that we're working as fast as we can to restore the site.  Thank for you patience in advance.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
