From Onboard Updates (Jun 23, 2003)

United has been notified that the normal processing time for U.S. passport renewals may increase at some locations from the usual two weeks to five-to-six weeks.  However, many passport agencies are still able to process renewals in less time.

If you are unable to have your passport renewed using the normal process, expediting fees will be reimbursed upon request under the following conditions:

  • The request is made during the final month of the passport duration; and

  • Your schedule during the three months preceding the request does not contain a period of time-off (excluding vacation periods) equivalent to the normal amount of time for renewal in that domicile city.

If sufficient days off are present in the flight attendant’s schedule to allow for obtaining or renewing a passport without incurring an expediting fee (e.g., leaves of absence, furlough, ANP, etc.) the reimbursement request will be rejected.

Flight attendants requiring expedite service can obtain a letter from their domicile for personal presentation to the Passport Agency.  The letter will request immediate processing to accommodate their work schedule. For detailed application information, see the “Services” section under www.travel.state.gov

In addition, the domicile will provide flight attendants with a signed authorization letter for reimbursement of passport expedite fees.  Flight attendants should submit this letter, along with the Flight Attendant Reimbursement Form (USWW4166) and all passport processing-related invoices to the Flight Attendant Service Center for reimbursement.

Due to our current financial situation and to minimize additional costs, please do all possible to renew your passport using the normal processing to avoid expediting fees.
