The AFA-CWA Merger passed with 8,843 in favor and 6,696 opposed.  Here's the letter from the MEC President Greg Davidowitch:

December 1, 2003

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The Members of the Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO consisting of Flight Attendants from 26 different airline carriers determined the future of the world’s largest Flight Attendant Union in the question of whether or not to merge with the Communication Workers of America. The vote ratified with 8,843 in favor and 6,696 opposed. Forty-six percent of all eligible AFA Members voted. A breakdown of votes cast will be made available as soon as we receive it.

The spirited debate and passion expressed over how to best progress for our Union ’s strength should serve as inspiration for what we have yet to achieve in our profession. The strength of character that Flight Attendants bring to our profession in the care we take with each other and the pride we take in our job is individually remarkable; unified, it is powerful.

The AFA Membership has determined the vehicle for addressing our issues, but the purpose of our Union has not changed – to secure and improve the Flight Attendant profession. The role that each of us plays in our Union is paramount to our collective success and your continued participation in our democracy will determine the measurement of our achievements. As we have stated repeatedly over the past couple weeks, we will continue to work together with the dedicated members of the United Master Executive Council to represent your interests and speak in solidarity as we defend and promote Flight Attendant rights.

Continue to identify the issues, stay informed and involved. Thank you for participating in our democracy by voting, and remember that our solidarity will lead us to our future success.

In Solidarity,

Greg Davidowitch, President
United Master Executive Council
