January 27, 2003 - As a result of the previously announced closure of U.S. city and employee ticket offices, United is introducing a new way for US based employees and retirees to purchase their reduced fare interline tickets. International employees can continue to purchase reduced-fare tickets through their normal channels.

Effective Jan. 27, U.S.-based employees and retirees can call the Interline Pleasure Travel Desk in Reservations at 1-888- 874-1581. The line will be open Monday through Friday, from 0700 to 2100 Central time. A reservations sales and service representative will assist with the purchase of reduced-rate interline tickets.

Reduced-rate interline tickets can be purchased by credit card or check and can be sent free of charge via U.S. mail, or for a 15 dollar fee via FedEx. Those requesting tickets should allow five to seven business days for ticket receipt if paying by credit card and 10 business days if paying by check.

As always, employees and retirees should review the Interline Carrier Agreements page to determine which carriers offer reduced-rate travel to United employees, retirees and their eligibles before calling to request a ticket. Employees and retirees also should have their itinerary, names of persons traveling, dates of travel and their file numbers ready before they call.

Employees can also e-mail their interline reduced fare requests to
interlinepleasuretvl@united.com with the same information. International employees can continue to purchase reduced fare tickets through their normal channels.

How to request tickets:

  • Review your travel plans in advance
  • Determine which airline routes best match your needs
  • Determine what benefits are available from that airline
  • Contact Reservations at 1-888-874-1581 Monday- Friday 0700-2100CT. Be ready with the following information:
  • Itinerary
  • Names of people traveling
  • Approximate dates of travel
  • United File Number
  • Mailing address for tickets and preferred method of delivery
  • Credit card number

If time permits, you can also pay for tickets by mailing a personal check to:

United Airlines
Interline Travel
17501 Michigan Ave.
Dearborn, MI 48126

When using this option be sure to include the information mentioned above and also a daytime phone number and record locator number.

Tickets can be sent U.S. mail to your preferred address, or via expressed delivery for a $15.00 fee.

Unused reduced fare tickets will be refunded by United's Refund Department. Send refund requests to:

United Airlines
Passenger Refunds- WHQAK
P.O.Box 66282
Chicago, IL 60666

Please note: All refunds are handled the same way as the general public and are subject to all fare rules. Always reference the individual profile to check if carrier has a different refund policy. If they don't then use our proceedure, which includes the Aged ticket service charges:

AGED SERVICE CHARGE:

FOR TICKETS ISSUED:

ON/BEFORE 02/09/98: USD50/CAD66

ON/AFTER 02/10/98: USD75/CAD100

ON/AFTER 01/26/01: USD100/CAD145

WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM THE REFUND AMOUNT

TICKETS ARE VALID FOR 90 DAYS AFTER ISSUANCE FOR TRAVEL. THE TICKET VALIDITY IS ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF ISSUE. IF A REFUND IS APPLIED FOR AFTER ONE YEAR FROM THE ORIGINAL DATE OF ISSUE IT IS CONSIDERED AN AGED TICKET. AN AGED TICKET USUALLY RESULTS IN NO REFUND DUE.

Tickets purchased with a credit card will be credited back to the credit card used for purchase.

Last minute travel plans?

In the event of last-minute travel plans, reduced- fare interline tickets can be requested by phone and picked up at the airport. Employees and retirees should call the Interline Pleasure Travel Desk to create a passenger name record (PNR) and obtain their record locator number. Upon arrival at the airport, travelers should proceed to the check-in counter and provide the CSR with their record locator numbers to have their tickets printed. A form of payment will be required at that time.

The new ticketing service is available only for the purchase of reduced- fare tickets on other airlines. For space-available travel, employees and retirees should continue to use Weblist or the VRU system at 1-800-UAL-LIST to make United or United Express pass travel listings for themselves or to list companions on United.
