Looks Like We're All Headed Back to WHQ

Beginning October 7, and continuing through September 2003, all flight attendants will be required to complete Phase 2 of Cabin Defense Security Training---at the training center!

According to Onboard Updates, Phase 2 will "reinforce the skills and procedures used to recognize, evaluate and appropriately respond to threats on board the airplane.  Flight attendants will practice these new skills in live scenarios and hands-on exercises."

Since all of Phase 2 training will be conducted at the WHQ Training Center, you may as well start preparing for that stroll down Training Compound memory lane---and all the 3-hour dual-aisle service-flow class flashbacks of  that come along with it!

Although I'd almost rather have a root canal then deal with going back to that building again, United does provide some very good reasons for holding Phase 2 solely at the training center:

  • Helps keep course content secure and confidential.
  • Ensures flight attendant safety throughout the course.
  • Provides mock-ups for practice.
  • Solves legal, financial and logistical concerns.

So there you have it, over the river and through the Algonquin woods to the training center we go...  You can start bidding for this training in the August bid month.  All active flight attendants must complete Phase 2 in order to maintain their qualification to fly.

See you there!
