United today announced plans to dedicate a Boeing 777 in memory of the 18 employees who were killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.
The "Spirit of United" phrase is painted on each side of the nose, just below the stripe and aligned vertically with "Worldwide Service." The aircraft's nose number is 2825.
According to NewsReal:
"This aircraft was named in memory of the employees we lost on Sept. 11, a humble testament to the work they chose and the lives they lived," says Chief Executive Officer Jack Creighton. "We are privileged to have the opportunity to remember them in this way. This dedication honors not just those who died, but those who step on board every day and keep their dreams of travel alive. Every flight stands in opposition to terror and honors both their lives and the freedoms we enjoy."
Already the plane is up and flying, on the way today to Frankfurt as flight 940.
