Some good news to report: Effective June 1, we will no longer be staying at the Westin Bonaventure, the LAX layover hotel where, among other safety problems, one of our own crew members was raped. I'm sure that you will be hearing more details about this hotel change on Unimatic Front Page News, DEAR-AFA, Onboard Updates, and in your June Bid Packages. Keep in mind that your bid packages still list the Bonaventure, but this will NOT be your layover hotel.
For now though, please remember that this permanent move came not as the result of loving, caring, warm, fuzzy, lollipops, and pretty-in-the-springtime-flowers feelings but rather plain hard work.
Our permanent departure from that unsafe hotel was the product of numerous meetings with WHQ and the AFA Hotel & Transportation Committee. That, and numerous TVLLOG reports submitted by flight attendants.
The bottom line is that we're out of there as of June 1, 2001. Between now and then, if you don't wish to stay at that hotel, you don't have to. Simply call 1-800-FLT-LINE and press option #2. Then, have the scheduler immediately change your hotel to the Los Angeles Renaissance. No questions asked, period.
